Rabat – Morocco’s capital Rabat and Tangier are scheduled to host matches of the 2023 Club World Cup.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation decided that the two Moroccan cities will host the matches of the next edition of the tournament, according to converging news reports.

The tournament is set to take place between February 1-11. Marrakech and Agadir were both candidates to host the matches.

FIFA confirmed in mid-December that Morocco is set to host the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.

This is not the first time Morocco hosts high-profile football tournaments. In 2013 and 2014, the country hosted the same tournament. And in July, the North African country also hosted the Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Morocco’s successful track record in organizing football events has been frequently commanded by high-profile officials in the football scene.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe recently lauded Morocco’s “distinguished” organization of the WAFCON saying that it showcases Africa’s potential to host world-class football tournaments.

“We have the best football infrastructure in the world” in Morocco and in Africa, he said.

Morocco is also rumored to be on track to present its bid to host the 2025 Men’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Morocco’s News Agency (MAP) cited a source close to Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in October, indicating that the country intends to propose its candidacy to host Africa’s biggest professional sports event.
