Somerset – Following Morocco’s national team’s duly celebrated homecoming on Tuesday, the Atlas Lions have been filling social media with their gratitude and happiness at the epic welcoming celebration they received for the team’s World Cup.
Morocco has had plenty to celebrate as the Atlas Lions became the first Arab and African team to make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
The North African country has certainly proved it knows how to throw a party as the homecoming made international headlines.
One of the nation’s favored players Achraf Hakimi posted on Twitter: “Thank you for your unconditional support. Today was a very special day. Dima Maghrib.” The caption sat above a collage of a smiling Hakimi as he posed on the Atlas Lions’ open-top double-decker bus as it toured through the streets of Rabat.

Fellow teammate Hakim Ziyech also took to Twitter to write a simple but poignant caption that translates as “God Homeland King” alongside a picture of the team in the Royal Palace of Rabat with King Mohammed VI.

Morocco’s Abderrazak Hamdallah shared a clear declaration stating his love for his country: “What a feeling, I love you my country.” Some dramatic pictures in his tweet captured the overwhelming scenes from Rabat with flares and crowds surrounding the team with admiration and joy.

The Atlas Lions’ Sofyan Amrabat also posted multiple pictures on Instagram showing his excitement and gratitude for the welcome home party. One of the images captured the moment in which the King awarded him a royal medal. Amrabat captioned the picture: “I have a great honor that I met you and I love you so much and may God protect you for us.”

Among the social media overflow of admiration and happiness was a post by Morocco’s Nayef Aguerd who again shared a collage of him meeting the King in his younger days and then again when he received the royal medal this week.
The heartfelt caption read: “I can’t find words to describe how am feeling today… A historic evening in which I mixed feelings of joy, and pride in the title bestowed upon us by His Majesty King Mohammed VI…Thank you to the Moroccan fans, who came from different cities of the kingdom, for welcoming us …you are the real heroes.”
