Rabat – Algerian star footballer Riyad Mahrez, who plays for Premier League club Manchester City, has lauded the Atlas Lions for their playing style and tactics at the FIFA World Cup, highlighting that they are making Arabs and Africans proud.

The Manchester City winger commented on the Atlas Lions’ recent victories in an interview with Sky News Arabia, saying: “It’s amazing, they are doing a really good job, they beat some good teams, and they are in the quarterfinals now. They are making the Arabs and Africa proud, and I hope they continue.”

When asked which team he will support in the upcoming Morocco-Portugal match, Mahrez responded emphatically, “Team Africa. I support Morocco, even though I have some friends in Portugal.”

He also praised the Atlas Lions’ playing style and tactics. “They are a good team, they have good tactics, they stay very low on the counter, I think everyone is giving it everything, they are a proper good team and everyone works for each other,” he said.

Paris Saint-Germain [PSG] superstar Kylian Mbappe has also expressed his support for the Atlas Lions.

Mbappe visited Morocco’s national football team in Doha to encourage them ahead of their match against Spain, and was seen hugging his close friend and PSG teammate Acharf Hakimi.

Morocco’s journey in the global tournament has been marked by a string of victories that led to its qualification for the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.

The North African country became the first Arab-speaking country and the fourth African country to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

This momentous success has galvanized fans and underdog-supporting observers across the world, inspiring an outpouring of never-before-seen Moroccan, Arab, and African support.
