Rabat- Following the Atlas Lions’ historic qualification for the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) will receive $13 million (MAD 136 million ) in prize money from FIFA.

In the event the team qualifies for the quarter-final by defeating Spain on December 6, the prize money will total $17 million (MAD 178 million.)

The prize money increases as the football team advances in the global tournament; fourth place guarantees $25 million, third place guarantees $27 million, the runner-up receives $30 million, and the trophy winner receives $42 million.

Fox Sports reported that the winning team in Qatar will earn a staggering $42 million for winning the World Cup, an increase of $4m compared to Russia 2018.

The Atlas Lions qualified for the knockout phase for the first time in 36 years. Their participation in the global tournament was marked by a goalless draw with Croatia and victories over Belgium (2-0) and Canada (2-1).

The World Cup’s round of 16 will feature a match between Group F champion Morocco and Group E runner-up Spain. The game will take place on December 6 at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

Spanish professional footballer Sergio Busquets, stated that his team’s upcoming World Cup match against Morocco’s Atlas Lions will be “very difficult.”

According to Football Italia match predictions, this round of 16 clash “may be one of the hardest to call”  with Morocco “proving themselves highly capable competitors” and “Spain having a solid possession-based style.”

However, this year’s World Cup is full of surprises and thus highly unpredictable, beginning with Saudi Arabia’s shocking 2-1 win over Argentina.

Additionally, some of the world’s top-ranked football giants were eliminated from the World Cup’s group stage including Germany and Belgium.
