Rabat – King Mohammed VI ordered the immediate launch of a solidarity campaign for populations exposed to the significant drop in temperatures in the provinces of the Great and Middle Atlas.

A statement from the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity said that human and logistical resources will mobilize in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and local authorities to deliver humanitarian aid to many families residing in villages and remote areas in the provinces.

“The operation will target households in the four provinces of Midelt, Khenifra, Azilal, and Al Haouz,” the statement said.

The beneficiaries from the national campaign will receive a kit consisting of food products, such as flour, rice, sugar, and tea, among other items, as well as blankets.

The humanitarian aid will be distributed starting today, January 25.

The national campaign is part of the country’s approach to assisting citizens in remote areas to cope with cold snaps, that are affecting several provinces across Morocco, including the Rabat-Sale region.

The launch of the campaign came after an amber weather alert from the Moroccan weather office, which warned citizens of a cold snap across several regions throughout this week.

Temperatures are expected to drop to between -06 and 04 degrees celsius from this week until Wednesday in several provinces of the Kingdom, the alert warned.

The cities that will be affected by the snap, include Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Guercif, Figuig, Taourirt, Jerada, Taza, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenfira, Al Haouz, Tinghir, and Midelt.

Other cities that will also be affected by the cold snap will include Tetouane Ouazzane, Driouch, Berkane, Nador, and Oujda-Angad.

The cold weather will also concern, cities such as Fez, Meknes, Khemisset, Rabat, Sale, Fquih Ben Salah, among others.
