Rabat- Morocco has successfully met a significant portion of its agricultural needs, ensuring its national food security, said the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki.
Sadiki made the statement in a parliament session held in Rabat on January 2.
Sadiki emphasized that the supply rate for the fruit and vegetables sector has reached 100%. He also noted that this rate ranges from 90% to 100% for animal products like milk and meat, 50% for sugar, and 53% for cereals.
The minister highlighted that Morocco has implemented trade policy initiatives based on enhancing sectoral competitiveness, market diversification, trade protection, and strategic intelligence.
He also recalled that the Green Generation strategy prioritizes food sovereignty.
The strategy aims to promote sustainable production while conserving natural resources.
Meanwhile, the minister disclosed that the marketing and distribution of agricultural products at local and regional levels still faces several constraints that hinder the integration between production chains.

These constraints are related to poor infrastructure, the lack of appropriate management, and inadequate hygiene conditions, the minister said.

In this sense, the minister stated that he has developed a plan for market reform, adding that the Green Generation strategy aims to create 12 additional wholesale markets for fruit and vegetables across Morocco by 2030.
Adopted in 2018 Green Generation aims to educate a new generation of entrepreneurs and develop creative agricultural solutions to make the industry more “resilient and eco-friendly.”
The strategy also addresses food security and sovereignty, as well as the use of strategic stocks to ensure global food security.
