Rabat – Rescuers in Vietnam are racing to save a 10-year-old boy who fell in a 35-meter deep hole in a construction site on New Year’s eve.
Thai Ly Hao Nam fell into a hole only 25 centimeters wide in the southern Dong Thap province two days ago.
News reports say that many rescuers are present on the scene to save the boy.
“We are trying our best,” one of the rescuers told AFP. “We cannot tell the boy’s condition yet.”
The boy was heard crying shortly after he fell but stopped interacting with rescuers. Authorities continue to pump oxygen into the hole.
Converging reports stated that the country’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked “federal-level rescuers” to join the efforts led by local authorities to rescue the boy.
Rescuers are trying to drill next to the hole as well as soften the earth in order to pull up a pillar blocking Nam’s escape, DW reported.
Nam’s case comes almost a year after the heartbreaking tragedy of Rayan in Morocco. On February 1, 2022, five-year-old Rayan fell in a 32-meter abandoned well in his rural commune of Tamrout, Chefchaoun.
After five days of tireless rescue efforts, the five-year-old boy was pronounced dead shortly after being recovered from the well.
Masses of people shared messages of compassion and condolences to the family of Rayan, including King Mohammed VI who called the boy’s family to express his condolences.
