Rabat – The opening ceremony of the FIFA Club World Cup has been commended by a number of A-list of celebrities and public figures, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The president of the international football governing body said it is “fantastic” to see the Club World Cup tournament begin “in such style and with a great ceremony and song.”
“Amazing venues, the best teams and I look forward to seeing some fantastic games in the coming days,” he said.
Pictures and videos of the opening ceremony have gone viral.
Using different colors, themes, and features, the opening ceremony focused on Morocco’s openness as well as the cultural diversity in the North African country.
The show featured different genres of Moroccan music, including Amazigh, Sahrawi, Ganaoua, Ahidous, as well as other folklore-style music from Morocco’s 12 regions.
The fans could also be heard chanting Morocco’s famous support slogan “sir, sir, sir” (Go, Go, Go in Darija).
In addition to music, and a big-screen show featuring the journey of Morocco’s explorer Ibn Battuta in brief, the opening ceremony stage also showcased Morocco’s Head Coach Walid Regragui’s tribute to Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his nickname Pele.
In addition to Infantino, FIFA also celebrated Morocco’s opening ceremony by sharing pictures from the live event.
“#ClubWC Opening Ceremony = Delivered! ??,” FIFA wrote on Facebook. The pictures displayed fireworks during the opening ceremony as well as other colorful performances celebrating Morocco’s culture, openness, and passion for football.
