Rabat – Morocco’s Mohammedia School of Engineering (EMI) in Rabat is set to hold a fundraiser event on Saturday for children’s NGOs.
The social and artistic clubs of the top-tier engineering school, EMI-Khayr, and EMI-Arts, are organizing the event in collaboration with the 9th annual “Charity and Fun” concert.
The event will take place at the school, and returns will be donated to the medical-educational association “Grand Cœur” for children with Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorders.
According to a statement from the school, the funds raised will be directed to providing medical services and improving the children’s living environment, and supporting disadvantaged parents.
The event will feature performances from EMI students as well as a number of amateur and professional musicians who have volunteered to perform for the fundraising event, including Abdelkbir Rgagna and Hicham El Ouali.
In Morocco, much like in the rest of the world, individuals born with down syndrome face significant challenges within society. Over the years, many have even called for the legalization of abortion for parents expecting a child with down syndrome.
In addition to the fundraiser, EMI’s charity event is set to include a blood donation campaign, and raise awareness over the struggle of children with down syndrome and their parents in Morocco.
