Rabat – The royal family and the Moroccan population will celebrate tomorrow, February 28, the 16th birthday of Princess Lalla Khadija.
The Princess, King Mohammed VI’s second child and only daughter, was born on February 28, 2007. Her birth was officially announced by the Ministry of the Royal House, Protocol, and Chancellery with a 21-gun salute.
Moroccans across the country celebrated the Princess’s birth in 2007, with celebrations held in public squares and parks decorated with paper lanterns and covered with colourful flags.
People also signed wishes and congratulatory messages on “golden guest books” in various directorates, wilayas, and provinces across the country.
Lalla Khadija started primary school at the Royal Palace in 2011. At a young age, she began to show commitment to royal duties when she went with her mother to the opening ceremony of a Casablanca facility for children with cancer.
On June 24, 2017, the Princess participated in the graduation ceremony for the royal school at Casablanca’s Royal Palace.
In 2018, she took part in her first official ceremony alongside her father and Crown Prince Moulay Hassan. The ceremony was held to “support schooling and implement education and training reform.”
The same year, she also appeared on the cover of Femmes du Maroc magazine in a traditional green and gold caftan.
Additionally, she made appearances at international gatherings such as the 2019 welcoming ceremony of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain.
Princess Lalla Khadija’s public appearances seek to familiarise Morocco’s young royals with their future responsibilities.
