Rabat – Fez authorities have prevented hotels owned by Moroccan Parliament Member Aziz Lebbar from serving alcohol, sources have confirmed to Morocco World News (MWN).
Tourists staying in the city’s hotels were shocked to find that they were not able to order alcoholic drinks which they previously had access to.
The alcohol ban extended to other institutions which are not owned by Lebbar, as well as three other hotels owned by him.
The decision comes a day after Lebbar accused the governor (wali) of the Fez-Meknes region of corruption, threatening to expose documents related to the lack of investments in the city.
Lebbar made the comments after not being allowed to attend a meeting with Morocco’s Delegate Minister of Investment Mouhcine Jazouli, telling the press that he was denied entry because of fears that he would talk about investment issues in Fez.
The MP could be seen in videos on social media being escorted away from the hotel where the meeting was held, before talking to reporters in an agitated state.
Moroccan newspaper Assabah reported that the MP was taken to a hospital as he fainted following the incident.
Lebbar’s party, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), has not released any statements on the incident so far.
The MP has a long history of criticizing the region’s authorities for how they have approached investment over the years.
No official statements have been released from the side of the Fez-Meknes authorities either on why Lebbar was prevented from attending the meeting, a decision which has raised question marks considering the MP’s position as a government official and the president of the regional tourism council.
