Rabat – Morocco’s red city continues to establish itself as one of the world’s best tourist destinations, earning yet another worldwide recognition by ranking 5th out of 23 romantic destinations from across the world.

Marrakech came in fifth place in the ranking, ahead of Cambodia’s Siem Reap, Switzerland’s Lausanne, and India’s Shimla, respectively.

The iconic Moroccan city racked up a total of nearly 440 million TikTok views with the hashtags #Marrakesh and #MarrakechLovers.

Car rental company DiscoverCars described Marrakech as the “City of Luxury,” where couples can “indulge in 5-star hotels and explore the numerous spas dotted around the city.”

Compiling data from Social media platform TikTok as well as American business magazine Forbes, Discover Cars offered readers a list of 23 top romantic settings, “to enjoy some quality time with their partner.”

In particular, the car rental company used Forbes’s list of 23 Best Places to Travel in 2023, and then found the relevant hashtag of each location and a romantic-themed hashtag on TikTok before ranking them according to the number of views.

Speaking on the ranking, Aleksandrs Buraks at DiscoverCars.com said: “It’s always valuable to keep an eye on the current trends across social media platforms, particularly when it comes to travel.

“We found it extremely interesting to see locations such as Queenstown and Svalbard make the top five, which are not particularly the tourist hotspots that come to mind when it comes to planning a romantic break. It highlights just how many options couples have available to them,’’ she added.

Every year, tourists flock to Marrakech to experience its unique culture and explore its many attractions. The red city was recently voted as the eighth-best city for tourists in TripAdvisor’s Most Popular Tourist Destinations for 2023.

Earlier this month, Morocco was named the Best Picturesque Country in the World by the Embassy magazine-TravelJingles at the Diplomatic Awards 2023 in recognition of the country’s rich heritage and enchanting beauty.
