Rabat – Morocco’s Women National Football team will play two friendly matches against the Czech Republic and Romania in April, the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF) announced on Thursday.
The games will be an opportunity for the Atlas Lionesses to prepare for the upcoming 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand between July 20 and August 20.
The Moroccan squad will lock horns with the Czech national team on Thursday, April 6, in Prague, the European country’s capital city.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s second friendly match will take place against Romania on Tuesday, April 11, in Bucharest, the Balkan country’s capital.
The Atlas Lionesses clinched their first-ever qualification for the global tournament after beating Botswana during the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The continental event took place in Morocco in July 2022.

The Moroccan team displayed a remarkable performance at the WAFCON, reaching the tournament’s finals for the first time before losing to South Africa 2-1.
The upcoming friendlies will not be the Atlas Lionesses’ first for 2023, as they played two international friendlies against Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in February, both of which Morocco won.
Morocco clinched a 3-0 win against its Slovakian counterpart, and a 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Given the momentum that Moroccan football currently enjoys, football fans are hopeful that the Atlas Lionesses, the MENA region’s only representative at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, will produce a strong performance at the global event, similar to that of their male counterparts.
The Moroccan national team created history last year at the men’s World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first Arab and African nation to reach the tournament’s semifinals.
