Rabat – The Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel has seen its star rating on Google plummet from 4.5 to 2.9 stars after the hotel personnel posted Islamophobic slurs targeting Moroccan national football team players, who are staying at the hotel ahead of a friendly game against Peru on Tuesday night.
Most of the 1,722 reviews that the hotel received on Google as of Monday afternoon are one-star, the site shows.
“Unprofessional staff who do not respect their customers and not only complain about servicing them but also take pictures of them inside the hotel without their knowledge,” one review said. “Avoid at all costs.”
“Unprofessional staff. Don’t spend your money in places like these, they don’t even respect their clients and violate their privacy,” another one said.
Photos surfaced online earlier today, showing employees of the hotel making fun of the Moroccan players and of the holy month of Ramadan.
“Damn f*** Moros. I s*** on Ramadan and it’s f*** dead,” one of the posts read.
“The Moroccan team is in the Towers, you are a f*** pain,” another one said.
According to the Spanish sports outlet AS, the hotel condemned the staff’s reprehensible behavior and clarified that they would be taking legal action against the perpetrators of the racist and Ismaphobic posts on social media.
“First of all, we want to apologize to everyone who has been offended by what happened,” AS quoted one of the hotel managers as saying. “I am an Arab person, a Muslim who is celebrating Ramadan like many colleagues in the hotels and for this reason we feel as hurt as any Muslim in the world.”
