Rabat – After being recalled by Israel’s Foreign Ministry for sexual misconduct allegations in September of last year, the head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat, David Govrin, will reportedly return to Rabat in the coming days to resume his duties, a source told Morocco World News.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) reported on Sunday that the special investigation into Govrin’s alleged sexual misconduct has been closed, adding that Israel’s Foreign Ministry “intends” to return Govrin to the position of head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Morocco.
“Govrin is expected to return in a few months to finish his duties in the country. After that, he is expected to be appointed to the position of political ambassador,” KAN quoted an official at the foreign ministry as saying.
In September 2022, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a special team to Morocco to investigate the claims leveled against Govrin, which include sexual harassment, exploitation of Moroccan women, failure to properly report gifts offered to Israel, and mismanagement of workplace problems.
The ministry summoned Govrin to Israel as soon as they learned about the allegations and decided to replace him with Alona Fisher-Kamm.
Govrin strongly denied the allegations on his Twitter account, describing them as “false allegations and slander.”
“These baseless and misleading rumors, which are being promoted by stakeholders regarding sexual harassment, are merely complete fabrications,” the Israeli diplomat tweeted following reports of his alleged misconduct.
“This is slander that was fabricated to personally offend me and harm my relations with the Kingdom’s officials,” he continued. “I will not allow that.”
