Rabat – Ex-US President Donald Trump has predicted that he will be arrested on Tuesday as part of the proceedings in the criminal case against him for paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
“Illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan district attorney’s office … indicate that, with no crime being able to be proven … the far & away leading Republican candidate & former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week,” news agency Reuters quoted Trump as saying on his social media platform “Truth Social.”
The former president invited his supporters to protest the arrest, urging them to “take our nation back.”
Trump did not say whether he was notified in advance of any charges and did not discuss any details pertaining to the charges, with a spokesperson telling media outlets that “there has been no notification” beyond media leaks.
Daniels, who said she had an affair with Trump a decade prior to his election, was allegedly offered $130,000 in hush money by Michael Cohen, one of the former president’s lawyers in the lead up to the 2016 election.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges of violations of federal campaign financing laws that were tied to the payments made to Daniels.
This is not the first instance of Trump rallying his supporters for a protest: the former President did the same in late 2020 when Joe Biden won the presidential election, leading to a storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
