Rabat – OCP Africa’s Senior President for West Africa, Mohamed Hettiti, has called on international partners to join forces to address food security and agriculture challenges facing the African continent.

Hettiti made the statement during a keynote he delivered at the ongoing Afriqom Fertilizer Club – West Africa. He stressed the “crucial role of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the fertilizer industry to advance agriculture in Africa,” according to OCP Africa.

In addition, he urged partners to “join hands and work towards a bigger goal,”  emphasizing the key role that collective action plays in achieving sustainable development in the region.

Hettiti underlined OCP Africa’s initiatives which aim to address food security in Africa and empower local farmers to become resilient in the face of the global food and fertilizer crisis.

Among OCP Africa’s many initiatives, he highlighted the Fertilizer Relief Program, which seeks to empower African farmers by offering them 550,000 tonnes of phosphate-based fertilizer either for free or at a largely reduced price.

In an Interview with Morocco World News last year, Nada El Majdoub, Executive Vice President of Performance Management at OCP, described the Fertilizer Relief Program as “the largest of its kind” and an “unprecedented event.”

According to El Majdoub, the program was the “right response to the crisis that the continent is suffering from” due to the rise in fertilizer costs.

In addition, she highlighted OCP Group’s commitment to developing sustainable agriculture across Africa, saying that the phosphate giant “has been working in Africa for the past ten years … on the field … close to the farmers … getting to know exactly what their needs are.”

OCP Africa’s latest move to further strengthen food security in Africa came in the form of a partnership with Microsoft’s Africa Transformation Office, which aims to support smallholder farmers and other Agri-stakeholders across Africa by 2025.
