Rabat – The friendly game between Morocco and Peru on on Tuesday night ended in a goalless draw.
The game was played at the Civitas Metropolitans Stadium in Madrid.
Despite multiple chances by Morocco’s team, the first half finished without either side scoring.
The second half continued in the same fashion, with Morocco unable to get a goal in the net.
The game took a controversial turn towards the end, with Morocco’s Soufiane Boufal and Peru’s Carlos Zambrano receiving red cards in minute 79 for violent conduct.
The draw is on the heel of a historic victory for the Atlas Lions against five-time World Cup champion Brazil on Saturday.
Morocco became the first Arab country to defeat Selecao.
The result allowed Morocco to build on the positive momentum from its history-making World Cup run in 2022, where they became the first African and Arab team to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
The team also secured its qualification for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday.
Tuesday’s game was preceded by a tribute to Moroccan football legend Larbi Ben Barek, who played for Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the fifties. The Civitas Metropolitano is the club’s home stadium.
