Rabat – Morocco’s head coach Mohamed Ouahbi acknowledged the disappointment following the Atlas Lions’ loss to France, but insisted that the team’s future remains bright.
In a statement to beIN Sports after the match, Ouahbi acknowledged France’s quality as a strong opponent, praised the national team, but also admitted there were mistakes in their performance.
The coach reserved special praise for goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, whose crucial saves kept Morocco in the game against several dangerous French attacks, including Mbappé’s early penalty.
Ouahbi emphasized that his team enjoyed several positive spells, particularly during the second half, saying the Atlas Lions “remained calm.”
Ouahbi also referred to a controversial incident in which a French player appeared to handle the ball before Mbappé’s goal.
“The players stopped because they noticed a handball, but I am not a referee to decide,” he commented.
Despite the exit, Ouahbi stressed that the result should serve as motivation rather than discouragement.
“We have to continue working. We had some absences because some players were not ready. There is disappointment… The future will be better and more beautiful,” the coach said.
Ouahbi emphasized that tonight’s defeat will not stop the Moroccan team.
He stated that his team did everything it could in tonight’s match, adding that saying the future is bright does not mean “we did not want to win. We did our best. We should continue to work and keep full confidence. We will not let this defeat discourage us.”
Morocco’s 2026 World Cup journey ended tonight after a 2-0 defeat to France. The Atlas Lions once again showcased the performances that have established them among the world’s elite.
