Seven New Football Players on Morocco Squad List for March Friendlies

The head coach of Morocco’s national football team Walid Regragui unveiled on Monday the squad list for the Atlas Lions’ upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Peru. The games will take place on March 25 and 28 respectively.

Rabat – The head coach of Morocco’s national football team Walid Regragui unveiled on Monday the squad list for the Atlas Lions’ upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Peru. The games will take place on March 25 and 28 respectively.

The squad list, which included a total of 30 players, featured seven new players, including Chadi Riad, Ayoub Amraoui, Benjamin Bouchouari, Yassine Kechta, Ibrahim Salah, Abdel Abqar, and Mehdi Benabid.

Chadi Riad

Born on June 17, 2003, on the Spanish Island of Majorca, Riad currently plays as a center-back for the Spanish youth FC Barcelona.

Barcelona’s official website described Riad as a “very strong and decisive left-footed central defender.” The club also highlighted the 19-year-old player’s leadership and dominance on the pitch, adding that he is an “intense, aggressive player with vision both in defence and attack.”

Ayoub Amraoui

Amraoui was born on May 14, 2004, in France. He currently plays as a left-back for Ligue 1 French club Nice, with whom he made his professional debut in February 2023.

He is a youth product of French football clubs Ollioulaise, Racing, Toulon, and Air Bel. 

Benjamin Bouchouari

Meanwhile, Bouachouari began his football career with the Fortuna Sittard youth division. Born in Borgerhout, Belgium in November 2001, the young footballer plays as a midfielder for Ligue 2 French club AC Saint-Etienne, which he joined in August 2022.

Yassine Kechta

Next among the new additions is  Kechta,  born in France on February 25, 2002. He currently plays for France’s Le Havre Athletic Club (HAC), which he joined in May 2021.

The young talent began his career with Racing Club and Paris FB’s youth teams’ before joining his current club.

Ibrahim Salah

Joining team member Salah was born on August 30, 2001, in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Belgium. The Moroccan footballer plays as a winger for Ligue 1 club Rennes. 

Salah is a youth product of Belgian football clubs Union Saint-Gilloise and Beerschot. He made his professional debut in December 2021 with Belgium’s KAA Gent.

Abdel Abqar

Abdelkabir Abqar was born on March 10, 1999, in the Moroccan city of Settat, located 80 kilometers south of Casablanca. He plays as a central defender for the Spanish club Deportivo Alaves.

Schooled at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Sale near Rabat, Abqar joined Spain’s Malaga FC youth team in 2017, paving the way for his professional debut with Atletico Malagueno later that year.

Mehdi Benabid

Moroccan goalkeeper Benabid has featured as a substitute in Walid Regragui’s squad list alongside Munir El Kajoui and Reda Tagnaouti. Meanwhile, Yassine Bounou is the squad’s first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming friendlies.

Born on January 24, 1998, he currently plays for the Rabat-based Moroccan club Fath US.
