Rabat – The Mohammed VI Football Complex in the Moroccan city of Sale is hosting workshops organized by FIFA, football’s global governing body, starting Monday, March 6.
The workshops, held in collaboration between FIFA and Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF), will focus on developing the country’s football infrastructure and technical capacities, as well as pushing reforms at club level.
In addition to developing infrastructures to help with the sport’s growing popularity, the workshops will include training for FRMF’s administrative and technical staff.
Notably, the event is also set to include discussions of reforms to the country’s club football, as clubs evolve to become corporate and commercial entities.
Speaking at the workshops’ opening, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa especially stressed the importance of such initiatives for the younger generations and how young footballers can benefit from FIFA’s development programs.
International cooperation with FIFA and the world’s football federations could be the next step in FRMF’s plan to develop the sport in Morocco, with support from investments taken over the past years to develop it domestically.
A press release from the Moroccan federation said the workshops will host discussions on several topics such as the tasks and responsibilities of managers, expertise sharing and partnership agreements, as well as building team spirit.
The growth and development of football in the North African country made international headlines after the performance of the national men’s team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Moroccan football is starting to reap the rewards of the Federation’s good work, achieving great success at all levels of both the men’s and women’s game,” FIFA wrote on their website following the team’s qualification to the competition’s round of 16, before they ultimately reached the semi-finals.
The governing body specifically pointed to the opening of the Mohammed VI Football Academy as an indication of the significant success of the sport. The official body noted it is also looking forward to the future of Moroccan teams as the country continues developing its infrastructure.
