Rabat – On the occasion of the International Day of the Book held on April 23 and the National Day of Reading scheduled to be celebrated on May 10, Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication is promoting reading by granting access to thousands of e-books to users across the country.
The ministry announced the decision in a statement, noting the move is part of broader efforts to reinforce the technological and electronic service within public libraries across Morocco. The goal is to enrich the catalogs of public libraries, extend their access to e-books, and provide their users with about 9979 accounts to be able to download books for free and obtain immediate information with less effort, the statement detailed.
It noted that this initiative will enable the libraries’ users to download 328,480 e-books in various areas of knowledge.
The “rich and promising cultural program” consists of 328,480 e-books, 141,500 of which are in French (43%), 58,400 are in English (17.5%), 20,600 books in Arabic (6%), and 8000 (2.5%) in other languages.
This would create the opportunity to discover a variety of Moroccan and international literary products exceeding 100,000 and about 60,000 books for children and youth to open up to cultural diversity and stimulate their imagination.
According to the ministry, this new platform is a unique experience that Moroccan and Arab publishing houses have launched to keep pace with technological advances. Moreover, the initiative will open new horizons to Moroccan culture books while disseminating the Moroccan authors’ textual product on a large geographical area.
To benefit from the services of electronic libraries, users have to contact the public libraries in different regions of Morocco to create an account through which they can then access the platform.
