Rabat – The Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5) has once again secured its position as the leading university in North Africa in the 2023 ranking from the Center for World University Ranking (CWUR).

The ranking marks the third consecutive year that UM5 has claimed the top spot at both the national and North African levels. The CWUR ranking highlights the top 2,000 universities worldwide from a pool of over 20,000 institutions.

UM5 achieved a global ranking of 950th, placing it among the top 4.7% of the world’s best universities.

In a press release, Farid El Bacha, the university’s interim president, expressed his warm and proud congratulations to the faculty and staff for the achievement.

El Bacha acknowledged the dedication and efforts of the research professors, administrative and technical staff, and students, particularly in the fields of research and innovation.

The CWUR ranking takes into account four key indicators: research quality (40%), quality of education (25%), the presence of alumni in prominent positions in major companies (25%), and faculty members with international academic distinctions (10%).

The ranking is based on data derived from renowned international scientific database “Web of Science,” which encompasses publications, citations, and journal quality over the past decade. UM5’s exceptional performance in these areas has contributed to its recognition as a leading institution regionally.

UM5’s commitment to research excellence, high-quality education, and producing graduates who go on to assume influential roles in prominent companies has been instrumental in its continued success.

The university’s faculty members’ international academic distinctions further solidified its position in the ranking.

As UM5 continues to lead the way in higher education in North Africa, its consistent presence among the top-ranked universities worldwide underscores Morocco’s stature as a destination for education and research.
