Rabat – Legendary actor Robert de Niro has joined a growing chorus of A-list celebrities who showed love for Morocco’s Marrakech and its vibrant atmosphere.

De Niro expressed his admiration for the city and its people during the  inauguration ceremony of his luxurious Nobu Hotel.

“[Marrakech] is a special place. I’ve come here for the film festival and I might come again. I like the people very much.. It is still surprising that we found ourselves here and I am very happy about that,” he said during the inauguration of the Nobu hotel.

The Nobu hotel opened up its doors to clients in January, marking the first entrance of the luxury hospitality brand into Morocco.

In addition to the world-famous actor , the hotel chain was also founded by film producer Meir Teper and renowned sushi chef Nobu Matsuhisa.

In a previous post on Instagram, Nobu Marrakech introduced the hotel as “a place like no other.”

“Welcome to Marrakech Rooftop Garden. With breathtaking 360 panoramic views of the Red City and Atlas mountains, an urban garden, an elegant beach club setting, designed around a circular all season’s pool,” the hotel’s social media page says.

The hotel features different venues, including 71 luxurious suites, and a world-class restaurant, as well as a Nobu sushi bar.

It is located near some of the most visited landmarks in the city, including the famous Jemaa El Fna square and Koutoubia mosque.

Marrakech is one of the most-visited destinations in Morocco. The city  frequently features in some of the prestigious magazines and renowned rankings as one of the world’s top destinations for tourists.

In January, travel platform Tripadvisor ranked the city as the eighth best destination for tourists.

The city’s hotels are already full with a huge influx of tourists from across the world.

Many travel booking websites, including Marrakech Best Of, warned travelers of the demand the city is receiving recently.

“Marrakech is full at the moment! And it will certainly be this way until the end of September,” the website wrote in its Instagram story. “We strongly recommend that you book everything in advance!”

Tourist arrivals in Morocco reached  2.9 million in the first quarter of 2023. The number will be higher by the end of the year, with an influx of tourists exploring the North African country for the first time or more.
