Benguerir – Morocco has recognized the importance of Maintenance 4.0 and its potential to enhance industrial competitiveness, pushing the country to prioritize the development of Industry 4.0. In recent years, the Moroccan government has launched various initiatives to support the adoption of advanced technologies and digital transformation across various industries.
Maintenance 4.0 refers to integrating Industry 4.0 technologies into the maintenance field. Meanwhile, Industry 4.0 describes the fourth industrial revolution, which involves the convergence of digital technologies, automation, and data exchange.
Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir is hosting the first edition of the World Maintenance 4.0 Summit on May 11 and 12. During the event, experts in the field highlighted Morocco’s leading position in several cutting-edge industries, including aviation and the automotive sector.
In an interview with Morocco World News, Belgian Maintenance Evangelist and Director of BEMAS Wim Vancauwenberghe said that the “industry in Morocco is really taking up this challenge in digitization and in advancing its performance.”

“It is without any doubt that the 4.0 digitization and industry is the way forward,” Vancauwenberghe said, stressing that organizations that invest in the 4.0 industry will be able to achieve extra gain in cost performance and efficiency.
In this regard, he emphasized that Morocco has shown commitment to “the road to digitization,” predicting a fruitful future for the country in Industry 4.0. “I am sure that the results of that decision will follow soon.”
Martin Pocquet, Associate Director at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), echoed Vancauwenberghe’s remarks, saying: “Morocco has very great opportunities to seize in Industry 4.0.” He notably highlighted the skills and talents that the North African country boasts, giving the example of the UM6P and its focus on producing skilled young talents.
In addition, Pocquet underlined the progress Morocco has made across several industries, including mining.

He further spoke about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Industry 4.0, describing it as “a huge enabler” that can help organizations face challenges that may arise along the way.
Meanwhile, Asset Management Director at JESA Al Coury said that Morocco is currently “writing its history” in regard to Industry and Maintenance 4.0. He argued that “Morocco has a great position on the geopolitical map, especially when it comes to industry.”
“Today, Morocco is a leader in the continent in everything … technology, energy, renewable energy, and green hydrogen and ammonia,” Coury stressed, attributing this success to the young talents Moroccan universities produce.

Organized under the theme “Industry 4.0 for a sustainable future: challenges and perspectives,” the event aims to position the Moroccan industry as a regional leader in maintenance and Industry 4.0.
The event, which marks the first innovation platform dedicated to Industry 4.0 and Smart Maintenance in Africa, brought together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders in the field of maintenance and Industry 4.0 from across the continent and beyond.
Pocquet expressed his happiness for being part of the first edition of the summit, saying that it brought together experts from diverse industries.

Organized by Cluster Maintenance 4.0, the summit particularly focused on showcasing the latest trends and advancements in maintenance practices, as well as exploring new strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
