Rabat – PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said he was left impressed by Moroccan fans who attended the Wydad vs Al Ahly CAF Champions League final in Casablanca on Sunday.
During an interview with beIN Sports, Al-Khelaifi extended his thanks to Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) as well as the people of Morocco in general for their hospitality.
Al Khelaifi, who is also beIN Media Group chairman, attended the CAF champions league game on Sunday along with a high-level delegation, including Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe and WAC President Said Naciri.
“The fervorous crowd had left him seriously impressed,” beIN Sports said in a press release on Monday.
Commenting on the game, Al Khelaifi also commended the performance of the two teams, reiterating the need of providing them with resources required to grow.
“We reaffirm our commitment to giving African football the necessary support to reach its potential by enabling it to develop its talents and providing it with the necessary resources,” he said, describing football as a means of elevating humanity on a global scale.
Al Ahly defeated Wydad Casablanca on Sunday night to secure the 11th title as the CAF Champions League winner.
Wydad Casablanca’s coach, Sven Vandenbroeck, expressed satisfaction with the club’s performance, saying: “We were unlucky .. but I cannot blame the players after giving everything in Egypt and here. I feel satisfied with their effort, but unfortunately, the result was not in our favor.”
The coach also denied rumors that he has the intention to leave his post after the loss, stressing that he is now more focused on his club’s performances at Morocco’s league.
“I will work with the management and president to fix the imbalances, and this requires time,” he added.
