Rabat – Independent energy trading company BB Energy Morocco aims to expand its presence in Morocco’s energy sector with the opening of its new gas station network in Azemmour, located to the south of Casablanca on June 9.

The company’s expansion is part of the company’s commitment to investing MAD 200 million ($20 million) into distribution infrastructure over the next two years in Morocco, BB energy said in  a press release.

With ten gas stations already in operation, BB Energy Morocco—a subsidiary of BB Energy Group— plans to open an additional 20 retail stations by 2024.

BB Energy Morocco intends to make further strategic investments to grow Morocco’s green and clean energy sources.

The group is currently exploring opportunities in solar power, e-mobility infrastructure, and green hydrogen and ammonia production, aligning with Morocco’s ambitious goal of becoming one of the world’s largest hydrogen producers.

The company highlighted that with its extensive experience in energy trading, it aims to provide added value to its Moroccan customers by importing, storing, and selling fuel from multiple locations across the country.

During the inaugural opening of the Azemmour station, Mohamed Bassatne, CEO of BB Energy Group, expressed the company’s long-term commitment to Morocco’s energy system saying,”Our continued investment in Morocco demonstrates our commitment to being a long-term partner in the country’s energy system.”

He added: “Over the last 12 months, we have actively expanded our activities across the value chain, particularly in downstream and renewables.”

Bassatne emphasized Morocco’s attractiveness as an investment market and expressed enthusiasm for collaborating closely with partners and engaging in a dynamic ecosystem to support the country’s transition to greener energy, encompassing electric vehicle charging infrastructure and green hydrogen production.

Egide Gatera, founding Shareholder of Société Pétrolière Limited, expressed pride in the partnership with BB Energy Group and celebrated the opening of their network in Morocco, emphasizing the country’s status as a key market for investment.

“Working together with BB Energy Morocco, we plan to open another 20 gas stations in the next few years. We look forward to exploring future investment opportunities in Morocco as the country seeks to transform its energy system over the coming years,” Gatera said.
