Rabat – After a training session on June 6 at the Mohamed Benjelloun complex, Wydad’s coach, Sven Vandenbroeck, decided to give his players a day off today, as part of the preparations for their next, fateful match against Egypt’s Al Ahly in the final of the African Champions League.
Wydad players have reportedly expressed their determination to take up this challenge and offer the club as well as the Moroccan supporters a new continental trophy.
Excited to win the return leg and overcome the 2-1 defeat they sustained in the first leg, Wydad’s squad will count on a major asset: their public who will be present in large numbers at the Mohammed V Stadium.
The first leg of the CAF Champions League final between Egypt’s Al Ahly SC and Wydad Casablanca took place last Sunday at Cairo International Stadium.
The game ended with Al Ahly defeating Wydad with a score of 2-1. Before the end of the extra time of the first half, Al Ahly’s midfielder Percy Tau scored the first goal.
In the 59th minute, Al Ahly’s Striker Mahmoud Kahraba added a second goal.
As the game drew to a close, Wydad’s Saifeddine Bouhra reduced the difference by scoring the first goal.
With the second leg being scheduled to take place this coming Sunday, Casablanca’s Wydad is set to once again have a date with history. The overall winner will be determined after Sunday’s game, and all members of the Wydad team appear ready to rise to the occasion.
