Rabat – Morocco’s national Futsal team will face the Comoros on Wednesday at 12 p.m. Moroccan time as part of the 2023 Arab Futsal Cup, held in Saudi Arabia.
The Moroccan team were crowned champions at the sixth edition of the tournament last year, making it their second title in a row. This year, they start their campaign to defend the title against Comoros in the group stage.
The Futsal Atlas Lions will also face Kuwait and Lebanon in the group stage, and will aim to secure a third title to become the team with the most trophies in the tournament’s history.
Last year, the Atlas Lions beat the Comorian team twice in friendly matches.
Coach Hicham Dguig has prepared his squad for the tournament, with friendly matches at the Mohammed VI football complex prior to its start.
In this year’s edition of the Arab Cup, Dguig will have to do without three of his important players however, namely Soufiane El Mesrar, this season’s top scorer in the French championship, as well as Bilal Bakkali and Anas Bakkali.
The three players have been committed to play with their French team, Etoile Lavalloise Mayenne FC, for the play-off final on June 10 as well as the Coupe de France final on June 17.
After the game with the Comoros, the Atlas Lions will face Lebanon on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before closing the group stage with a game against Kuwait on June 11 at 12 p.m.
The tournament is taking place between June 6-16 with the participation of Algeria, the Comoros, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Tajikistan.
