Rabat – 11 Moroccan universities have secured spots in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023.

The 2023 Impact Rankings which is in its fifth edition features a total of 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions. 

These rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encompassing four major areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

The International University of Rabat (UIR) topped the list of Moroccan universities featured in the prestigious rankings; it was followed by the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) and Kenitra’s Ibn Tofail University.

Rabat’s Mohammed V University (UM5) came 4th, followed by Fez’s  Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University, Casablanca’s Hassan II University, and Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Tetouan, respectively.

Al Akhawayn University (AUI) came in 8th place, and it was followed by El Jadida’s Chouaib Doukkali University, Hassan I University, and University Sultan Moulay Slimane.

The presence of Moroccan universities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings not only highlights their impressive academic achievements and dedication to sustainable development, but it also underscores Morocco’s growing prominence in the global educational landscape.

In addition to its success in THE Impact Rankings, the Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5) recently ranked as the leading university in North Africa, according to the 2023 Center for World University Ranking (CWUR). 

This remarkable achievement marks the third consecutive year that UM5  has claimed the top spot at both the national and North African levels. The CWUR ranking highlights the top 2,000 universities worldwide from a pool of over 20,000 institutions.
