Agadir – Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani hosted Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch today at Lusail Palace, where he conveyed Morocco’s condolences following the passing of Qatar’s former Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Akhannouch offered condolences “on the passing of the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani” during the meeting with the Qatari ruler in Doha.
Several members of the Qatari ruling family, including Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir’s Personal Representative Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, as well as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, alongside other senior officials and members of the Al Thani family attended the meeting.
The visit came as Qatar continued to receive messages of sympathy from leaders and international organizations following the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013.
The Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday the death of the former Amir, describing it as a “great loss to the nation” and mourning “the late father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning.”
Qatar declared a four-day period of public mourning starting Monday, with government work suspended and national flags lowered to half-mast.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI had earlier sent a message of condolence to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, expressing his sorrow over the loss of the former Amir and praising his role in Qatar’s development.
“I learned with great sadness and deep sorrow the news of the tragedy that has befallen your esteemed princely family with the passing of your late father, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” the King said in his message.
The monarch paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad’s leadership, describing his contributions to Qatar’s modernization and international standing.
“I recall the distinguished achievements of the late great leader for the sisterly State of Qatar, particularly in advancing its modernization and developing its economic and political capacities, which granted it a prominent position and enabled it to effectively support just Arab causes and strengthen Arab and Islamic solidarity,” King Mohammed VI said.
The King also highlighted the longstanding ties between Morocco and Qatar, noting Sheikh Hamad’s support for Morocco over the years.
“The Kingdom of Morocco retains deep appreciation for the strong bonds of brotherhood that the deceased maintained with it, as well as his unwavering solidarity in times of prosperity and adversity,” he said.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who became Amir in 1995 after taking power from his father, led Qatar through a period of rapid economic growth and major international expansion. He handed power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in 2013.
