Rabat – Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc has announced today the cancellation of flights, from and to France on the 6th of June due to a notice of a civil service strike in France.
“Following the public services strike notice in France on June 6th, 2023, relayed by the unions of French DGAC, all airlines were asked to reduce their flight number. Accordingly, Royal Air Maroc cancels flights to and from France on June 6th, 2023,” Royal Air Maroc said in a statement.
In its statement, Royal Air Maroc emphasized its commitment to assisting affected customers by rebooking them on alternative flights. Passengers who have provided reachable contact details in their booking files will receive emails and text messages notifying them of their updated flight arrangements.

Royal Air Maroc urged passengers holding tickets to and from France to check the status of their rebooked flights and review or update their contact information through the managed booking section on the airline’s website.
For customers holding tickets on the canceled flights who do not wish to travel on the available alternatives, Royal Air Maroc offered two options.
The airline stated that it can refund their tickets using the original form of payment. Alternatively, passengers may request a free change of travel dates, subject to availability, either to the same destination or to another destination within Royal Air Maroc’s network in France.
The new travel date must fall within 15 days of the original flight date, provided that the initial duration of stay remains the same.
Royal Air Maroc advised passengers whose flights have been canceled and who have not yet received confirmation of their rescheduled flights to avoid going to the airport. Instead, they should contact the initial point of sale or the Royal Air Maroc call center to confirm their rescheduled flights or inquire about the aforementioned provisions.

The civil service strike in France is part of a larger nationwide multi-sector strike and associated demonstrations planned by labor unions and opposition parties on June 6th. This marks the fourteenth such event since January, as part of an ongoing campaign against the government’s pension reforms.
According to Reuters, lawmakers are scheduled to discuss a draft bill proposed by the opposition Liot party on June 8th, which aims to cancel the retirement age reform. In response, the unions stated that the industrial action on June 6th is intended to “allow all workers to make themselves heard by the MPs.”
In April 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron signed a controversial bill into law to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, despite massive protests throughout the country in opposition to the reform.
