Rabat – Head of Israel’s Liaison Office in Rabat, Morocco, Ambassador David Govrin, is set to return to Morocco by the end of June, according to Israeli media.
In September 2022, reports emerged of allegations linking David Govrin to dozens of workplace years-long “irregularities” and sexual misconduct. Days after the allegations surfaced, Gorvin was suspended after the Israeli Foreign Ministry opened an investigation regarding “serious acts” of a sexual and financial nature.
The allegations of “irregularities” included the exploitation and harassment of Moroccan women working at the Rabat Liaison Office, conflict of interests, and mismanaged workplace disputes.
According to a report from i24NEWS, the head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat, David Govrin, will resume his duties as head of the liaison office in Rabat by the end of the month. Some of the allegations subject to the investigation directly implicate David Gorvin.
A report from the Jerusalem Post in September indicates that in addition to sexual misconduct allegations, a “special delegation” of the Israeli Foreign Ministry sent to Rabat was investigating the case of an official gift from the Moroccan Royal Family to Israel that was not properly reported to the Foreign Ministry and remains unaccounted for.
According to the Israeli media, the gift notably consisted of a gift card the Liaison Office received from the Moroccan Royal Family on the occasion of the Israeli Independence Day.
The spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to “confirm or deny the return of David Govrin to Rabat,” i24NEWS report indicates, adding that Govrin also did not respond to requests for comment, Israeli media reports indicate.
Gorvin was appointed in January 2021, a month after Israel and Morocco normalized diplomatic relations. Should he return to head office, his mandate would expire in 2024.
