Rabat – The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a heatwave alert for several provinces in the Kingdom, with temperature set to soar between Saturday and Tuesday. The vigilance level has been raised to “orange,” indicating the need for increased caution and preparedness among residents.

According to the DGM’s alert bulletin, temperatures ranging from 37 to a scorching 47°C are predicted across various regions. The provinces of Tata, Zagora, Aousserd, Oued Ed-Dahab, and the eastern parts of Assa-Zag and Es-Semara will face the highest temperatures on Saturday, with the readings expected to reach between 45 and 47°C.

The heatwave is anticipated to persist on Sunday, with temperatures remaining in the range of 45 to 47°C in Tata, Zagora, Assa-Zag, and Es-Semara’s eastern provinces. Additionally, the provinces of Oujda-Angad, Guercif, Boulemane, Taourit, Taza, Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, and Khenifra will experience sweltering conditions, with temperatures ranging from 40 to 44°C.

As the week progresses, the heatwave will continue to impact several provinces from Monday to Tuesday.

Residents of Oujda-Angad, Guercif, Fes, Sefrou, Taza, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Ouezzane, Sidi Kacem, Taourirt, Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Khouribga, Settat, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehmna, Marrakech, and Taroudant can expect temperatures ranging from 42 to 46°C during this period.

In the same timeframe, the provinces of Azilal, Al Haouz, and Khemisset, along with the interior regions of Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Nador, Berkane, and Driouch, will also experience the heatwave, with temperatures ranging between 37 and 42°C.

DGM’s statement advised residents in the affected provinces to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential risks associated with high temperature.

It is crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day, it said, further encouraging residents to seek shade, use sunscreen, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.
