Rabat – Head of Israel’s Liaison Office in Rabat, Shai Cohen, announced in a series of tweets that he has concluded his mission in Rabat four months after taking the diplomatic position.
Posted yesterday on his Twitter account, the tweets read, “Today I finish my mission in Morocco, and I share with you expressions of thanks after 4 months as the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat. During these months, I was very proud of our bilateral achievements and the positive developments.”
In the Twitter thread, Cohen expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan people, writing, “My thanks to all the Moroccans who welcomed me and opened their hearts and the doors of their wonderful kingdom to me.”
The news comes months after reports from Israeli media that David Govrin, the former head of Israel’s Liaison Office in Rabat, was expected to return to his post by the end of June.
Govrin was recalled back to Israel in September 2022 over allegations of workplace irregularities and sexual misconduct that emerged.
Following the allegations, Govrin was suspended after the Israeli Foreign Ministry initiated an investigation into the sexual and financial violations.
The accusations involved workplace exploitation and harassment of Moroccan women at the Rabat Liaison Office, conflicts of interest, and mishandling of workplace disputes.
The investigation reportedly implicates Govrin directly in some of the allegations. In addition to the sexual misconduct claims, the Israeli Foreign Ministry sent a special delegation to Rabat to investigate the mishandling of an official gift from the Moroccan Royal Family to Israel.
The gift, received by the Liaison Office on the occasion of Israeli Independence Day, was not properly reported to the Foreign Ministry and remains unaccounted for.
