Rabat – Authorities at the Tanger-Med port successfully intercepted an international smuggling operation on Saturday.

The joint operation resulted in the seizure of 209 kilograms of cannabis, commonly referred to as “chira,” which was concealed inside an international freight truck.

The bust was made during a routine border control check. With the assistance of sniffer dogs, the hidden stash was discovered carefully concealed within the cargo of agricultural products being transported by the truck.

The vehicle was on the verge of boarding a ship when the seizure took place, marking another breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.

The cannabis was neatly packaged into small bundles, clearly indicating its preparedness for international distribution.

The successful operation did not end with the seizure of the illicit substance. Following further investigation and search efforts, authorities were able to apprehend the 36-year-old Moroccan driver of the truck, whose identity has been withheld.

The driver is believed to be a key figure in the drug trafficking network and is now in custody.

The suspect has been placed under the custody of the Judicial Police Brigade at the Tanger-Med port. The investigation is being closely supervised by the prosecutor’s office to ensure a thorough examination of all potential national and international links associated with the criminal activity.

Authorities are determined to dismantle the entire network and hold all responsible individuals accountable for their actions.
