Rabat – A heatwave is expected to begin today in several provinces across Morocco until Thursday.
According to a new weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN), temperatures are expected to range between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius across the country.
The peak temperatures are expected to affect the provinces of Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Assa-Zag.
The provinces of Es-Semara and Aousserd will also observe similar weather.
The past few days have witnessed cooler weather in Rabat and surrounding regions compared to Monday and Tuesday, when temperatures reached around 46 degrees.
Many suggested that the hot weather is unprecedented in Rabat, which usually records temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees during the summer season.
A spokesperson in the weather directorate warned about the risk of forest fires triggered by rising temperatures during the summer season.
In a statement to Moroccan TV channel 2M, the spokesperson stressed the importance of vigilance to address any possible forest fires, which have been affecting thousands of hectares of Morocco’s forests in the past few years due to heatwaves.
The spokesman also warned citizens against too much exposure to the sun, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated – especially among children, the elderly, and people with illnesses.
