Rabat – Morocco’s energy efficiency agency MASEN has announced launching the tender process for the Noor Midelt III Solar Project.

In a statement on Wednesday, MASEN explained that as part of the accelerated development of renewable energies, it is launching the prequalification for the selection of the companies who will be responsible for financing, constructing, and operating the Noor Midelt III Project.

The news comes after the agency announced last month the list of pre-qualified companies for the second phase of the Noor Midelt Program (Noor Midelt II).

Noor Midelt III will have an installed capacity of approximately 400 MegaWatt (MW) of photovoltaic solar and will be equipped with a storage capacity based on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) of around 400 Megawatt Hour (MWh).

According to MASEN, the project would contribute to the “massive integration of renewable energies, particularly by helping to cover the peak demand of the National power system.”

Thanks to its Project Financing structure, Noor Midelt III will enable a greater contribution from the private sector to the deployment of renewable energy sources and will involve a number of commercial banks, both Moroccan and international.

As the MASEN moves forward with the execution of the three Noor Midelt plants, I, II, and III, the Midelt region will host one of the world’s largest solar complexes, with a total installed capacity of around 1600 MW.

The massive project would contribute to Morocco’s objective of increasing green energy’s contribution to its overall energy mix to at least 52% by 2030.

In its statement, MASEN invites interested companies or consortia to download the prequalification document from the link https://etendering.masen.ma, adding that the deadline for submission of applications is set for Friday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m., Moroccan time.
