Rabat – Morocco and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation and partnership across various sectors.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti Nezha Alaoui M’hammdi emphasized this shared commitment in a recent interview published by Ethiopia’s News Agency (ENA).
The historical ties between Morocco and Ethiopia, deeply rooted in socio-economic and political cooperation, have a long-standing history dating back to the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union.
As founding members of the pan-African organisation, the two nations have aimed to foster close relations and mutual understanding over the years, evolving towards an economic partnership that spans diverse realms of investment.
Alaoui M’hammdi underscored the pivotal role played by cooperation agreements signed during King Mohamed VI’s visit to Addis Ababa in 2016, which paved the way for substantial progress in various sectors, including air services, trade, taxation, investment, agriculture, and renewable energy.
A notable highlight of this partnership is the joint development agreement between the Ethiopian government and OCP Group.

Agriculture, a sector of paramount importance to both nations, has been a focal point of their collaborative efforts since 2009. The commitment to bolster agricultural cooperation highlights Morocco’s dedication to assisting Ethiopia in achieving its food security and sustainability goals.

Alaoui M’hammdi highlighted the shared cultural values between the two countries, underscoring the importance of deepening cultural exchanges and forging stronger bonds between their societies. This cultural connection is seen as a further building block for fostering understanding and collaboration across diverse sectors.
