Moroccan Dirham Faces Depreciation Against US Dollar and Euro

Rabat – The Moroccan dirham experienced a decline in value against both the US dollar and the euro in the week spanning from July 27 to August 02, as indicated by data released by Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

The dirham depreciated by 1.6% against the US dollar and 0.66% against the euro during this period, raising concerns among economic analysts and market observers.

The dirham’s depreciation against the dollar was marked by a consistent decline over the week, reflecting a broader trend of fluctuation in currency markets.

While a depreciation of 1.6% might not be considered dramatic, it nevertheless indicates a shift in market sentiment and dynamics.

Bank Al-Maghrib aims to closely monitor market developments and employ a variety of tools to manage currency volatility, ensuring that the exchange rate aligns with the country’s economic goals.

Market participants and economic experts will be watching closely for any potential interventions from the bank that could influence the dirham’s trajectory in the coming weeks.
