Rabat – Morocco is positioning itself as Europe’s primary supplier of clean energy, capitalizing on its diverse geography and burgeoning green energy infrastructure, Italian energy-focused media outlet Energia Oltre highlighted.

Energia Oltre pointed to Morocco’s remarkable potential to cater to Europe’s escalating demand for sustainable energy sources.

The North African country has an expansive landscape, extended coastline, and abundant sunlight that form the bedrock of its impressive wind and solar energy capabilities. The outlet also noted that Morocco’s strategic proximity to Europe provides a unique advantage, enabling it to emerge as a substantial energy exporter to the European Union.

As Europe undertakes a substantial overhaul of its energy markets in the wake of recent crises, particularly the war in Ukraine, the need for fresh sources of clean energy has surged.

“The Old Continent has embarked on its transition towards green energy and strengthened its commitments related to clean energy,” stated Energia Oltre.

This transition necessitates a substantial influx of clean energy sources, making Morocco’s extensive potential particularly pivotal, especially when compared to most European counterparts.

Further confirming Morocco’s preeminence in the realm of renewable energies, the news agency revealed that the nation ranks seventh globally in terms of energy performance.

Highlighting one of Morocco’s recent accomplishments, Energia Oltre also pointed to the successful operation of wind generators in the Boujdour complex, the latest in a series of wind projects completed in the North African country. The wind energy complex at Boujdour serves as a cornerstone facility for clean energy production, underpinning Morocco’s success in transitioning to sustainable energy while combating climate change.

Morocco intends to generate 52% of its electricity through renewable means by 2030, in an ambitious project that has already seen the country establish several huge wind and solar facilities.
