Rabat – Headlines across the world are not surprised by Morocco’s win over Haiti, but have acknowledged the Atlas Lions’ struggle to make a comeback and take control of the game.
Haiti kept its promise and fought until the last whistle despite its early elimination from the competition following two defeats to Scotland and Brazil.
The team that lost two games came to the pitch last night as a squad determined to exit the global tournament with a performance to remember and be proud of. And despite Morocco’s comeback, this match was indeed a last dance Haiti’s Grenadiers seized to make their fans proud.
While criticism against the Atlas Lions is there, ESPN also recalls how the national team is committed to its “tag of World Cup dark horses.”
“So committed, in fact, that there have been times during this tournament that it’s almost as if they’re playing within themselves in an effort to stay under the radar,” the report said.
While brilliance was there, the report sensed that the team looked ragged and uncomfortable.
Coach Mohamed Ouahbi made several changes to his starting lineup, and gave starts to Ayoub El Kaabi, Soufiane Amrabat, and a few more players.
The changes showed how Ouahbi’s 26 men are not all match-ready, despite his remarks stating they are and expressing satisfaction with their play.
ESPN highlighted how Haiti showed resilience and determination, including in their previous two games, where they also played well but were unable to score.
The report, ultimately, acknowledged that missing chances could mean one last game for Morocco.
“Sit back, concede control, miss chances, and let defensive mistakes creep in, and they might only have one game left at this World Cup. The real Morocco will have to stand up soon,” ESPN concluded.
