Agadir – French aerospace company Safran Electronics & Defense has launched a major expansion to its industrial site in Nouaceur, near Casablanca, through a MAD 350 million ($37 million) investment to support growing demand in the aerospace sector and strengthen its presence in Morocco.
Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour attended the groundbreaking ceremony alongside Safran Electronics & Defense CEO Franck Saudo, Safran Morocco President Laurent Figari, Midparc Chairman Jalal Benhayoun, and French Ambassador to Morocco Philippe Lalliot.
The project will add 17,000 square meters to the existing facility and is expected to create approximately 500 jobs over the next five years, including positions for engineers, technicians, and production operators.
In a statement after the ceremony, Mezzour said the expansion seeks to support the company’s continued growth and entry into new markets.
“This expansion, for which an investment envelope of MAD 350 million has been allocated, aims to support the company’s rapid growth and its opening to new markets,” the minister said.
The new facility will house 15 additional production lines designed according to Industry 4.0 standards and developed within an environmentally responsible framework.
According to Mezzour, the project will more than double the site’s current workforce of 430 employees, half of whom are women.
“It is expected to create around 500 additional jobs over the next five years, bringing the workforce to more than double its current level of 430 employees, 50% of whom are women,” he noted.
Strategic aerospace hub
Safran has operated in Morocco for more than 25 years and has steadily expanded its industrial footprint in the country. The Nouaceur site currently produces nearly 400,000 aircraft components annually for major global aerospace manufacturers.
The facility specializes in the design, assembly, and maintenance of high-value aerospace systems, including actuators, flight computers, and measurement systems used by leading aircraft manufacturers worldwide.
Mezzour described the latest investment as evidence of Morocco’s growing importance in the global aerospace industry.
“I am impressed by this expansion, which embodies the growth of the sector and confirms the maturity of Morocco’s aerospace platform, as well as its competitiveness and attractiveness,” he said.
The minister added that the investment reflects the longstanding partnership between Morocco and the Safran Group.
“This investment reflects a solid historic partnership and deep mutual trust between the country and the Safran Group,” Mezzour concluded.
