Rabat – The Moroccan women’s national team is set to face their Zambian counterparts in two friendly games on September 22 and 26, as part of their preparations for the 2024 ParisOlympic Games.
The Atlas Lionesses began their training sessions at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in the city of Sale for the friendly double-header against Zambia.
This is the Moroccan players’ first get-together since their exceptional run at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
At the 2023 World Cup, Reynald Pedros’ squad reached the round of 16 as debutants following a brilliant showing in the group stage.
The Moroccan team’s captain Ghizlane Chekkab and her teammate Anissa Lahmari, both holding an optimistic view, told the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) that they are happy to be back together after the World Cup, and were determined to “prepare well for the next challenge.”
For the Atlas Lionesses, the main objective remains the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. To that end, they are “motivated” and “determined” to live up to the public’s expectations.
Back in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, held between July 20 and August 20, the Atlas Lionesses delivered a historic performance in the group stage games despite a big 6-0 oss in their first match against Germany.
They were able to recover and win 1-0 against both South Korea and Colombia, qualifying for the round of 16 while Germany witnessed a group stage exit.
Their journey ended with a 4-0 loss against France in the round of 16, but their participation served as a testament to the development of women’s football in the North African country.
