Marrakech – Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch confirmed today that the Moroccan government is actively working to develop mechanisms to ensure that the reconstruction of homes in areas affected by the tragic September 8 earthquake takes place smoothly and in exemplary conditions, Moroccan state media reported.
Speaking after the third meeting of the inter-ministerial committee tasked with setting up an emergency program to rehabilitate and support the reconstruction of earthquake-hit, Prime Minister Akhannouch underlined the government’s commitment to making the reconstruction process as efficient and effective as possible.
“Within this inter-ministerial committee, there is continuous work and reflection by the government on the mechanisms that would make the reconstruction process exemplary,” Akhannouch stated.
The main focus of the meeting was to identify the mechanisms that would facilitate the implementation of this important social program, in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI. Prime Minister Akhannouch highlighted that technical committees are actively surveying the affected regions to identify houses that have either completely or partially collapsed.

In addition to addressing the urgent need for reconstruction, the meeting also focused on the redevelopment of these areas and the prospects for new investment. This in line with the royal directives issued by King Mohammed VI, who called for immediate action following the devastating earthquake.
King Mohamed VI’s instructions, issued during a working session on September 9, led to the rapid establishment of the inter-ministerial committee, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the importance of a comprehensive and well-structured response.
Since striking the Al Haouz province in Central Morocco earlier this month, the earthquake has left numerous communities struggling with the loss of homes and infrastructure.
