Rabat – The El Farah neighborhood in the city of Casablanca witnessed the collapse of a residential building on Tuesday, with the tragic incident resulting in minor injuries but causing no fatalities.
According to local reports, the building, which is located on Abi Chouaib Doukkali Street, in the El Farah neighborhood, in the Al Fida district, had been classified among the neighborhood’s ramshackle buildings.
The accident only caused two minor injuries, a security source on site told SNRT News, adding that the injured were immediately taken to a nearby clinic to receive the necessary treatment.
The source also reported that as a first precautionary measure, the competent authorities evacuated residential buildings near the collapsed building, as a first precautionary measure, in anticipation of further collapses.
The source indicated that an investigation has been launched by local authorities, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, to determine the cause of the accident.
Such incidents have been causing concerns among the locals of Casablanca in recent years.
In the same district of Al Fida in Casablanca, less than a year ago, three individuals died due to the collapse of a two-story building in stormy weather.
In January 2021, two other buildings collapsed in Morocco’s economic city. One was caused by heavy rainfall that lasted for several days, while the other was previously classified as a high-risk building.
