Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Ben Guerir signed on Friday 8 a memorandum of understanding (MoU), in collaboration with General Confederation of Moroccan Businesses (CGEM), and Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE) to mobilize the skills and high scientific and academic potential of Moroccans living abroad to contribute to the country’s influence and development.
The signing ceremony convened UM6P’s President Hicham El Habti, CGEM’s President Chakib Alj, AMDIE’s Managing Director Ali Seddiki.

This partnership is part of the “Road to Marrakech” initiatives, in preparation for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to be held in October 2023 in Marrakech.
Under the terms of this collaboration, CGEM, UM6P, and AMDIE will work to identify, attract, and support Moroccan scientific and academic skills as well as high potentials living abroad.
Through this MoU, the partners will mobilize Moroccan entrepreneurs from around the world to strengthen economic relations between their host countries and Morocco, and facilitate the integration of these skills and high potentials into academic and economic initiatives.

Members of UM6P, CGEM, and AMDIE Altogether
The Moroccan diaspora, which counts approximately six million across the world, is an “important” asset for Morocco’s development, Alj stated in his introductory speech.
The parties will work closely together to set up promotional and prospecting initiatives, including trade fairs, conferences, roundtables, and roadshows, with the aim of creating synergies and business flows.

They will also set up and maintain a compendium of the skills and high potential of the Moroccan diaspora, to facilitate their identification and integration.
Highlighting the importance of this partnership, Alj said: “As part of the accelerated drive to transform our country’s economy, this agreement represents an important step towards stimulating productive investment and promoting innovation and economic development by mobilizing Moroccan skills and high potentials around the world, in accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI.”

The Collaborating Parties
On September 5, UM6P unveiled the “Road to Marrakech – Diaspora Entrepreneurship Program,” an ambitious project the increasingly prominent university designed to tap into the innovative potential of the African diaspora.
The program is available to African diaspora entrepreneurs, startups, and people with original ideas. It aims to bolster and assist them in tackling pressing issues, including climate change and its effects on the environment and communities.
