Rabat – As the death toll from the Friday earthquake continues to rise, attention is now turned to remote villages in the Al Houz regions, as some of them still await rescue two days from the onset of the earthquake.

“No one arrived here to help, people from different villages are gathering to dig,” a local in a small village in the Al Haouz region told Morocco World News (MWN).

“Two buildings have collapsed on a family of five, people here are still digging and they haven’t found them yet,” the local said.

Sharing the devastating results of the earthquake, she said that seven bodies were found yesterday and that the death toll rose to nine today, with searches still ongoing.

The citizen added that a number of residents are still missing and have not been found yet.

“There is nothing left, no electricity, water, or food,” she lamented.

The earthquake led to mountainous areas collapsing onto roads, effectively isolating the already remote village after the seismic event.

As of Sunday afternoon, the death toll from the earthquake exceeded 2,200. Rescue operations are still underway to find survivors.
