Rabat – As rescue operations continue to unfold, the death toll from the tragic Al Haouz earthquake continues to rise, reaching 2,862 as of Monday at 7 p.m.

A little over 2,800 people have been buried, while the number of injured has reached 2,562.

Al Haouz region recorded 1,604 deaths, the Taroudant region 976, and one case in the Essaouira region. No new deaths have been recorded in the remaining provinces and regions that were affected by the earthquake.

All attention is now directed to remote villages in central Morocco as they are suffering in isolation.

Roadblocks caused by collapsing mountainous areas are slowing down the flow of humanitarian aid, with some villages still waiting for rescue almost three days after the earthquake.

Locals in remote villages have sent out cries for help on social media, saying they are left without food or shelter in the wake of the disastrous earthquake.
