Rabat – Morocco has released information regarding the bank account the country will be using to collect contributions and donations for people affected by Friday’s devastating earthquake.

Those in Morocco seeking to send relief contributions to the bank can do so on account number 126 at the following RIB: 001-810-0078000201106203-18.

People outside Morocco seeking to contribute through financial donations can do so via IBAN: MA64001810007800020110620318.

The setting of this bank account was in line with the “high instructions” by King Mohammed VI, who called for the creation of a special bank account by the Treasury and Bank Al-Maghrib, the Moroccan central bank, to receive relief contributions from citizens as well as private and public institutions who wish to help.

Since Friday, many NGOs and organizations have been launching campaigns to collect funds and assistance to help people in distress.

Morocco World News joined the campaign by launching a GoFundMe initiative to collect donations, with the aim of helping the ongoing efforts to help the people who have been affected by the repercussions of the heartbreaking tragedy still unfolding in many earthquake-hit provinces across Morocco.

MWN has pledged to transfer all the money collected as of today to the Bank Al-Maghrib account for relief funds. The newsroom is also committed to sharing receipts of the transfer in an early convenience.

Morocco witnessed on Friday the strongest and deadliest earthquake that hit the North African country in 120 years.

The earthquake killed at least 2,122 people in many provinces, including Al Haouz, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Youssoufia, Tinghir, Casablanca, Azilal, and Agadir.

Meanwhile, the latest estimates indicate that over 2,000 have sustained injuries of different severity levels.

In the wake of the tragic earthquake, Morocco has declared a 3-day mourning in solidarity and sympathy with all victims.

Rescue teams, authorities, volunteers, as well as civilians are doubling efforts to tackle the crisis.

The earthquake has left thousands of people homeless, with King Mohammed VI urging authorities to speed up the renovation and rehabilitation of their homes.
Amid the outpouring of support messages from around the world and the Moroccan government’s pledges to speed up relief efforts, videos and pictures have been going viral of the challenges that civil protection services are facing to access remote areas affected by the earthquake.
